Event & radar context

These statistics describe the tornado that struck Pilger. The separate Pilger East tornado was also rated EF4: 16:13–16:32 CDT, 19 minutes, 11.84 miles long and up to 500 yards wide. Both tornadoes occurred within the same radar view; this sequence includes their overlapping lifetimes. Weather radar measures the storm above ground and does not resolve every detail of the tornadoes at the surface.

Interpreting the rating

F, EF and IF are different damage-rating scales. Original source labels are preserved. Badge colours group the numerical categories for browsing; they do not imply identical wind thresholds. Radar products do not directly establish the damage rating.
